WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department has issued warrants for Daquan Maurice Dailey, a Leland man who is accused of hitting a bicyclist with his car.

“Dailey, 25, struck a bicyclist while attempting to turn south out of a business in the 100 block of South Kerr Avenue. The victim, a Wilmington woman, was traveling north on the sidewalk against traffic when the crash occurred.  Dailey then exited the vehicle, spoke briefly with the victim to ask if she was injured and then gave her a hug before leaving the scene without providing information,” according to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD).

The victim suffered minor injuries and the bicycle was damaged, according to police, and Dailey is charged with misdemeanor hit and run leaving the scene with property damage and operating a vehicle without a license.

Despite the fact the victim was breaking traffic laws by riding on the wrong side of the road and into traffic, she will not face any charges, according to WPD.
