WILMINGTON—If you’re a nighttime traveler, you won’t be able to cross the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge until late next week.
Detours will be available and marked, as crossing the Cape Fear River will still remain available on the Isabel Holmes Bridge, a little over two miles down the road.

North Carolina Department of Transportation will continue working on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge every night through next Thursday. From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., NCDOT crews will close the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in both directions nearly every night now until July 6.
The closure is needed so a contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation can safely repair mechanical components of the bridge, according to the NCDOT’s website.
The bridge will remain open for holiday traffic during July 3 and July 4. NCDOT asks motorists to avoid the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge during scheduled maintenance.
