
Update: Ashley Marie Canady has turned herself in to authorities near Fayetteville,12-year-old Arteyu Canady was located safe and has been returned home.
HAMPSTEAD—The Pender County Sheriff’s Office is reaching out for public assistance finding 12-year-old Arteyu Canady after he was taken from his home by his mother, who does not have legal custody.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Arteyu was removed from his home by his mother, Ashley Marie Canady, around 11 p.m. on Monday, April 30. Arteyu lives with his legal guardian in Hampstead.

The Sheriff’s Office believes Canady and her son may be headed either to Fayetteville or Charlotte.
Arteyu is described as approximately five feet tall, weighing 130 pounds; he has blue or hazel eyes and brown hair. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Arteyu was last seen wearing a black zip-up hoodie with the Vans logo in white lettering, along with athletic shorts and black Nike Air Jordans.
Ashley Canady is believed to be driving in a four door, dark blue 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with North Carolina plate FBM-7409.
An Amber Alert is expected to be issued for Areyu Canady shortly.
