LELAND—With Leland’s population on the rise, increased retail options coincide.
Ocean Gate Plaza, a retail development off Highway 17 in Leland, has three tenants on board: Dunkin’ Donuts, Hibachi Bistro and Bridgewater Wines.

The development broke ground at 1132 New Pointe Blvd. in January and is on track to open to customers by late June.
Joining the fastest growing county in the state was an easy move for the Zuckers, who had recently “escaped” New York. The couple are opening their first wine shop, Bridgewater Wines, in the new development.
“We want to become part of the fabric of the community,” Doug Zucker said. “We’re very pleased so far and positively surprised by the feedback.”
Bridgewater Wines will carry “honest wines from honest people.” Zucker said finding good wine does not require more out of your pocket.
“Whether its a $50 wine that drinks like a $100 wine or a $10 that drinks like a $20 wine, we’re going to expose people to values at all price points from all over the world,” Zucker said.
The 1,500 sq. ft. space will feature a tasting bar with 24 wines by the glass and eight beers on tap from local brewers.
“We’ll also have a conversation area with couches, chairs, tables, where they can sit and enjoy a glass of wine,” Susan Zucker said.
Together, the Zuckers have traveled the world curating their taste for affordable, fine wine.
“Last year, I tasted wines in 6 different continents,” Doug Zucker said.
Ocean Gate Plaza is still under construction, but the Zuckers are anticipating an opening date in late June.
