AmeriStay leaving, 4-story hotel planned on Market Street

New project plans reveal the hotel at 5001 Market Street will soon be revamped as Tru & Tapestry Hotel with a four-story addition according to preliminary site plans.

WILMINGTON—AmeriStay Inn is apparently not here to stay. According to recent preliminary plans submitted to the city of Wilmington, a four-story hotel is planned in its place.

Called Tru and Tapestry Hotel, the new project appears to utilize some of the existing structures and overhaul others. Tru and Tapestry are two Hilton brands, with the Market Street renovation to be included in Hilton’s Tapestry collection.

It will feature a restaurant, banquet hall and new four-story building in place of its current pool.

There will be a total of 207 rooms following the proposed construction according to the preliminary site plan.

The property owner, Seraj Enterprises, Inc., purchased the 4.45-acre tract of land in 2008 for $3,184,000 according to New Hanover County property records. Ownership of 5001 Market Street has not changed since.

For now, AmeriStay Inn is still open to guests. Inquiries to management at AmeriStay Inn have not immediately been returned.
