Wilmington Police arrest woman they say was drunk and on crack when she hit motel

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department arrested a woman for a hit-and-run that ended with the suspect colliding with a motel early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on March 14, officers responded to Wayne Drive in response to reports of a hit-and-run. The suspect, Sara Nakia Mitchell, of Wilmington, fled the wreck in her vehicle. As Mitchell sped off she collided with the America’s Best Inn and Suites on Market and North 30th streets.

After the Mitchell hit the motel she attempted to flee on foot. Officers located Mitchell, who they said was intoxicated and admitted to having smoked crack cocaine.

According to officers, Mitchell blew a .1 in a breathalyzer test. The legal limit is N.C. is .08.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with two counts of hit-and-run, driving while under the influence, an open container violation and driving with license revoked.
