NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A half-dozen students have now been arrested for making threats in the wake of the Parkland shooting, including a 15-year-old from Eugene Ashley High School who was arrested today after making a threat on social media.
According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spoksman Jerry Brewer, the white, male teenage student is in custody, charged with making false threats of mass violence on educational property.
According to the Sheriff’s office the student posted a photo of a gun with a backpack, along with the words ”ready for school.”
Brewer said detectives did not find a gun on the student when he was arrested. Detectives are still investigating, in order to determine if the student had access to a firearm. Brewer said the Sheriff’s Office did not consider the social media post as a credible threat at this time.
