NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Following the Wednesday arrest of a teen for making threats about a planned school event, two more Myrtle Grove Middle School students have been arrested, apparently for threatening “mass violence” at the same event.
According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, two teens – a 13-year-old male and a 14-year-old female – who attend Myrtle Grove High School were arrested today. According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jerry Brewer, they were charged with making false reports of mass violence on educational property.

The students told several witnesses they would bring firearms to an assembly at Myrtle Grove Middle School and open fire on students and staff, according to Brewer.
The student arrested Wednesday also threatened violence on Friday, leaving a note on a student’s desk warning students not to come to school that day. Parents were not notified until Thursday morning, when New Hanover County Schools sent out an automatic call at 10:38 a.m. — in the meantime, parents were left confused, frustrated and upset.
