Update: Hoggard High School liaison officer arrested in domestic incident

Scott, a Leland resident and Wilmington police officer was arrested Monday morning by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s office.

Update: Officer Michael Christopher Scott has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the resolution of his charges in Brunswick County and an internal investigation by the Wilmington Police Department.

LELAND — A Wilmington Police Officer was arrested in Brunswick County yesterday, charged with making threats and damage to personal property.

Wilmington Police Officer Michael Christopher Scott is one of the department’s four school liaison officers, currently stationed at Hoggard High School.

Scott, a Leland resident, was arrested Monday morning by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s office. According to Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Emily Flax, the arrest stemmed from a domestic incident after a warrant was taken out by the victim.

Scott was released later the same day. Scott will appear in court on Thursday morning, Feb. 8, in Brunswick County.

At press time, New Hanover County Schools did not have any comment. According to Wilmington Police Department Communications Officer Linda Rawley Thompson, the city’s Human Resources Department is processing the issue and will respond with comment as soon as possible.
