WILMINGTON — A single vehicle accident has  caused the closure of the intersection at Wrightsville Avenue and Country Club Drive Thursday morning.

The accident also sent one man to the hospital.

Wilmington Police responded to the accident where a utility pole was struck by a vehicle and broken in half, WPD Spokeswoman Jennifer Dandron said.

The intersection is closed in all directions and it is not yet known when police will re-open the roads, but it is expected to take some time to repair the pole.

“Wilmington Traffic and Engineering and Duke Energy are on their way to assess damage and begin repairs,” Dandron said. “All of the traffic lights at the intersection are off, there are low hanging wires, and one man was injured and transported to the hospital.”
