NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Good news for RV lovers hoping to find a place to camp in the Cape Fear Region, a new RV and travel trailer park offering 43 campsites has been proposed along River Road near Snow’s Cut Bridge.
Plans have been submitted for a special use permit to New Hanover County by Cindee Wolf of Design Solutions for property located at 9533 and 9617 River Road.
Currently part of the land is vacant, while another portion of the property is home to 14 mobile homes. The property is zoned as residential which do allow for camping and RV sites provided a special use permit is issued.
The property is situated adjacent to Snow’s Cut Park and across the water from Carolina Beach State Park, according to the plans submitted to the county’s Planning Board.
The documents note that, “The subject tracts and the general vicinity around them have been used for both permanent mobile homes residences and transient camping facilities for many years.”
While there have been several mobile home parks in the City of Wilmington that have been bought and sold in the past few years, leaving residents without a place to live, the Snow’s Cut RV and Travel Trailer Park would not displace current residents.
“The plan envisions phasing so that none of the current residents will be displaced. Lots 1-26 can be crated immediately. The Phase II would not happen until those existing residents moved,” Wolf said.
The request for the special use permit was supposed to have gone before the Planning Board on Jan. 4, but due to inclement weather, the item will be discussed at the meeting which has been moved to Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. Ultimately, the Board of Commissioners will have to sign off on the approval, but the date for the meeting has not been decided.
