OAK ISLAND — Drivers in Brunswick County should find a different route instead of travelling northbound on the G.V. Barbee Bridge north of Oak Island this week.

According to the N.C. Department of Transportation, drivers can expect lane closures until Friday when repairs are completed. The bridge’s guardrails were damaged during a recent crash, according to NCDOT.

Northbound drivers on the G.V. Barbee Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway north of Oak Island will likely encounter lane closures the rest of this week.

“The closures will be in place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. until Friday, Dec. 22. Transportation officials urge motorists to drive carefully through the work zone,” according to Brian Rick, communications officer for the NCDOT.
