WILMINGTON — Two of the four municipalities in New Hanover County have voted to loosen restrictions regarding Sunday morning sales – after Tuesday, it could be all four.

Both the Wilmington and Kure Beach will vote to either approve or deny the so-called Brunch Bill this week.

The Town of Wrightsville Beach was the first municipality in the county to approve the measure on Monday evening. The Town of Carolina Beach followed suit and approved the ordinance last Tuesday night.

While the two towns voted to approve the measures without much ado, the City of Wilmington will hold a public hearing to allow residents to voice their opinions on the matter.

“Although not required, the discussion will include a public hearing to get citizen input on the issue. This follows a statewide law recently passed by the N.C. General Assembly that allows local governments to make the change if approved by their elected officials. Other cities, including Charlotte, Raleigh and Carrboro, have already approved the change,” according to Malissa Talbert communications manager.

Both Kure Beach and Wilmington’s meetings will take place 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the respective council chambers.

Governor Roy Cooper approved the bill at the end of last month and several cities across the state have already approved the ordinances on a local level.
