WILMINGTON — A 28-year-old Wilmington man who videotaped his sexual assault of his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter will serve up to 51 years in prison after pleading guilty on Monday to multiple sexual assaults against two of the woman’s children.
Marcus Dent pleaded guilty to three counts of first degree statutory sex offense, three counts of taking indecent liberties with children, three counts of first degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
The victims in the case were ages 3 and 9. The victims’ mother found a video on the defendant’s phone, which showed the defendant sexually abusing her nine year old daughter, according to a press release from District Attorney Ben David.
“The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for Dent’s phone, and found three videos depicting the defendant sexually assaulting a nine year old prepubescent girl,” a release from David’s office states. “The woman’s younger child also disclosed that the defendant had sexually abused her.”
Dent was living with the woman and children at the time, the release states. Dent was sentenced to 33 to 51 years in prison and, upon his release, will have to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
