KURE BEACH — The smallest of the local beach towns celebrated a big anniversary this weekend.
To mark its platinum anniversary, the town turned Atlantic Avenue and parts of K Avenue into a street fair featuring local shops, food trucks and live music from the Prime Time Band and Junk Yard Mama. The younger residents also seemed to enjoy a visit from a very large firehouse Dalmatian, courtesy of the Kure Beach Fire Department.
The street fair was full of tourists and locals alike, but most of Kure Beach seemed to be celebrating the town’s 70th birthday by simply enjoying Kure Beach. As the sounds of Motown drifted over the beach, people fished from the pier, played in the surf and basked in the sun.
Happy birthday, Kure Beach.
