Frozen hash browns from Harris Teeter in several southern states, including North Carolina, are being recalled because golf balls were harvested with potatoes by McCain Foods.

McCain Foods USA Inc. announced today it is voluntarily recalling retail, frozen hash brown products that may be contaminated with pieces of golf ball materials.

Among the products said to be affected are Harris Teeter frozen hash browns distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and Maryland.

Also affected are  browns sold in Illinois and Wisconsin under the Roundys label.

The specific recall for the southern states is for Harris Teeter brand, 2 lb. bag of “Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns.” The product has a universal product code of 007203649020.

Distribution occurred after Jan. 19, 2017. No other products under the Harris Teeter or Roundys label are being recalled.

There have been no reported injuries, but McCain notes that, “despite our stringent supply standards” golf balls ” may have been inadvertently harvested with potatoes used to make this product.
