UPDATED 4:39 p.m.

WILMINGTON — Police are investigating a hit-and-run Friday morning that left a man dead. Police have identified the victim as Joshua Krag Roydes, 29, of Wilmington.

According to Wilmington Police Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay, officers responded to a 911 call about a male subject lying on the road in the 5400 block of Oleander Drive at 7:12 a.m. Friday.

Officers found a male subject deceased. Through their investigation, detectives have determined the pedestrian had been involved in a hit-and-run.

Anita Shepard, who works nearby, was getting off the bus stop in front of the scene as police were responding. Shepard told Port City Daily, “It was right about 7:30 a.m. and the EMS had just finished doing chest compression. The police had the EMS put the stretcher back in his truck and they covered the body. That’s when I knew it was no good. It was very sad, out there in the cold like that.”

Shepard said she spoke to United States Post Office worker who made the 911 call.

“They’d seen the body out there, and everyone was driving by. So he called it in,” she said.

No other information was immediately available. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. Lindsay said police continue to investigate and do not have information about a suspect vehicle at this time.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at 910-341-4683 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES. Start your message with Tip708, then type your tip.
