A masked suspect with an assault rifle reportedly robbed a Leland area bank this morning.
According to Leland Police Department Lt. Jeremy Humphries, police received a call about the armed robbery at 8:21 a.m. Thursday at the Riegelwood Federal Credit Union at 2065 Andrew Jackson Highway in Leland.
The suspect entered the bank with an “assault style” rifle, Humphries said. He took and undetermined amount of cash from the bank and then drove away from the scene in a blue Sudan.

Detectives have not yet determined the nationality of the suspect, Humphries said. The suspect wore a tan colored jacket with a hood on it, a ski mask and gloves during the robbery.
The FBI is assisting Leland detectives with the case.
Anyone with information that could lead to the whereabouts or arrest of the suspect is asked to contact Leland Police Detective Jonathan Kazee at 910-371-1100 and dial extension 1503.
