LELAND — Local and state authorities have released the names of an injured Leland police officer and deceased suspect, both of whom were shot during an exchange of gunfire Friday night in a Leland neighborhood.
Leland Officer Jacob Schwenk, responded to Bridgeport Way in the Windsor Park neighborhood at about 8:50 p.m. Friday, where he encountered a suspect by the name of Brent Quinn, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
During the course of the encounter, there was an exchange of gunfire between Officer Schwenk and Quinn, according to the SBI. Officer Schwenk sustained multiple injuries from gunshots fired during the incident. Quinn died from injuries he sustained in the gunfire.

Additional information about the officer and suspect were not released by either the SBI or Leland Police Department, at the time of this report.
Leland Police Department Lt. Jeremy Humphries said the incident is under investigation by the SBI, at the joint request of Leland Police Chief Mike James and Brunswick County District Attorney Jon David.
Officials with the SBI said a criminal investigative report will be provided to the district attorney’s office when complete.
