LELAND — An officer was shot and a suspect killed in the Windsor Park Community in Leland Friday. The incident happened just before 9 p.m.
The officer was taken to New Hanover County Regional Medical Center for multiple gunshots to the leg. No further information about the shooting was made available.
Brunswick County District Attorney Jon David said he, Sheriff John Ingram and Leland Police Chief Mike James have asked for an independent investigation by the State Bureau of Investigations.
As of Friday night, neither the officer or suspect were being identified, pending the notification of family.
