Detectives investigate suspicious death at local apartment complex; man dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound at gun range

WILMINGTON – Local Authorities are investigating two deaths in the Wilmington area this afternoon, one involving the suspicious death of a female at an apartment complex.

Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating after a woman was found dead inside an apartment at the Hawthorne at New Centre Apartment complex. The investigation began at around 3 p.m. Monday, and detectives are currently investigating the suspicious death of a white female in her 20s at an apartment in the 100 block of Dapple Court, police spokeswoman Linda Rawley said.

Details about how detectives were lead to the apartment were not released by the police department. Rawley said detectives are working to gather information that could aid in the ongoing investigation. A medical examiner has arrived on scene to determine the cause of death.

More information will be released as it becomes available, Rawley said.

In New Hanover County, detectives were called to Shooters Choice at 6789 Gordon Road at about 2 p.m. Monday for a black male who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation is ongoing.
