BURGAW – Pender County is seeking volunteers to help at the temporary distribution center set up to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew flooding.
“While Pender County students were out of school during Hurricane Matthew, the students volunteered at the distribution center,” Tom Collins, Pender County emergency manager, said. “Now that the students are going back to the school, we will need volunteers at the distribution center.
Organizations and civic groups are urged to volunteer. Individuals are welcomed to volunteer.
“There’s no commitment necessary,” said Collins. “All we need is a little elbow grease.
Flood victims can stop by the distribution center for food supplies, toiletries, and clothing. The distribution center has been set up at Gateway Community Church in Burgaw, 416 West Bridgers St., in Burgaw.
Donations for residents who were affected by flooding are being accepted at the church. Among the items being asked for at this time are cleaning supplies, dry goods, packaged underwear and bottled water. Clothing is not needed at this time, according to Ted Mercer, pastor at Gateway Community Church.
