CHICAGO — Connor Barth connected on all three field goal attempts for the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but the Jacksonville Jaguars rallied to score 10 points in a 2:10 span late in the final period to turn a 16-7 deficit into a shocking 17-16 victory before 55,614 stunned fans at Soldier Field.
The Bears converted a turnover into a 3-0 lead on Barth’s 36-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Chicago carried a 10-0 advantage in the second half and Barth converted a 24 yard attempt to cap an 11-play, 74 yard drive with 5:43 left in the third quarter to give Chicago 13-0 cushion.
Jacksonville pulled within six on a Chris Ivory one yard touchdown, but Barth his third field goal of the game at the 8:28 mark of the final frame before the Jaguars made the comeback.
With the loss, the Bears fell to 1-5 for the first time since 2004 and have now dropped 16 of their last 20 home games dating back to 2013.
Chicago had one last opportunity to try and set up Barth for a potential game-winning field goal as the Bears reached the Jaguars’ 44 on their final drive, but a holding and incomplete pass over the middle on fourth-and-10 with :57 to play seals the Bears fate.
Barth is 8-of-11 on field goals this season. The Wilmington native has converted all three attempts between 20-29 yards. He’s 4-of-5 on 30-39 yard kicks and 1-for-2 between 40-49 yards. Barth missed his only try from beyond 50 yards this season.
