CAROLINA BEACH — The annual Salty Paws Festival is returning once again to Carolina Beach Lake Park.
The event, now in its eighth year, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends to take part in activities like a photo shoot and a costume contest with a first-place prize of $250.
During last year’s festival, dogs came dressed in everything from a banana costume to Wonder Woman and R2D2. Pets without a microchip can also get lifetime microchipping at the festival for $30.
Music will be provided by Junkyard Mama and Roots United, and there will be food vendors on premise so visitors can have lunch while listening to the music and enjoying the scenery of the lake.
Among the many vendors at the festival selling goods and treats for pets as well as humans, there will be animal rescue groups showcasing some of their animals available for adoption. During 2015’s event, there were more than dogs and cats available for adoption, as reptile and rabbit groups were also present.
Admission is $7; children under 10 are free. Money raised from admission, and a silent auction, will benefit local animal rescues.
