KURE BEACH — After being postponed due to Hurricane Matthew last week, the Kure Beach Farewell Summer Jazz Funeral is back on, and the public is invited to take part in the festivities.

The annual New Orleans-style fete to send off the summer season will be held Friday, Oct. 14, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Ocean Front Park.

Bags of beads and masks will be available for participants to purchase for $5 so they can adorn themselves during the funeral march. People are also encouraged to bring their own beads, fancy hats, parasols and wear their finest clothes.

The procession will begin at 7 p.m. at L Avenue. The Dixieland All Stars Band will help escort the casket and funeral march to the pavilion at Ocean Front Park. Though the food truck that was originally scheduled for the funeral could not make the new rescheduled date, participants are encouraged to eat at one of the local restaurants in Kure Beach.
