WILMINGTON — Ever wanted to work for the state of North Carolina or see your business receive a state contract? Friday morning has your opportunity to learn more at a state-sponsored jobs fair.

The University of North Carolina-Wilmington is hosting  “The Opportunity NC Jobs and Contractor Forum,” a state-organized event meant to let students and the public know about what state jobs are available, and what contracts with the state are up for bid.

According to a press release about the event, there are thousands of job opportunities and over $2 billion in contracts available now. Participating state departments include North Carolina’s departments of Transportation, Public Safety, Health and Human Services and Works.

In addition to the jobs and contracts fair, the Office of Historically Underutilized Businesses will host the small business and contractors forum, which will include a panel discussion for minority-owned and woman-owned businesses.

The day’s events will be held in the Warwick Center Ballroom on the UNCW campus, 601 South College Road. The first event will be The Opportunity NC Jobs & Contractor Forum, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The career fair will be held simultaneously from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Doors open at 9:30 a.m.

According to Chris Jones, a special assistant to Governor Pat McCrory, the fair is meant to be a place for interested people to make contact with and learn about the hiring process. Resumes are not required, but will be accepted.
