WILMINGTON – Want to try and buy a boat? Or just looking for something unique to do with the family this weekend? The inaugural Wilmington Boat Show is now underway bringing a variety of boat vendors and entertainment together at several locations in the city.
The opening of the boat show drew crowds to downtown Wilmington and Battleship park on Friday. The docks at Port City Marina and Pier 33 were filled with a variety of boats. Guests even took a tour of some million-dollar yachts.
Boating enthusiasts know the names; Boston Whaler, Grady-White, Carolina Skiff, and others, making up the more than 80 different boat styles on display, including cruisers, sailboats, skiffs, fishing boats and yachts.
Serious boat buyers have a chance to try out the boat at the show’s “demo dock” before purchase. The boat show also includes more than 100 vendors set up along the Wilmington’s Riverwalk and in the Wilmington Convention Center.
There’s pirates, bouncy houses, sailing clinics, and fishing seminars at the show. Wilmington Water Tours will take guests across the Cape Fear River, to and from the lawn of Battleship Park, where Twiggy the world famous water-skiing squirrel will hold her performances. The Battleship Park will be home to other family-friendly events and activities.
The boat show continues Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets for adults are $10, while children 15 and under are free. The show offers seniors and members of the military tickets for $5. All first responders and military personnel are invited to attend the show at no charge on Sunday, Sept. 11 as part of the show’s 9/11 tribute which begins at 1 p.m.
