WILMINGTON – Velma J. “Vel” Supplee, 93, of Wilmington, North Carolina, died peacefully, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, with her family by her side.
Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Magnolia, New Jersey, she is a daughter of Samuel Rodman and Lillian Webb Rodman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George W. “Sup” Supplee; her brother, William Rodman; and her sister, Jeanne Holloway.
Mrs. Supplee is survived by her daughters, Anne L. Supplee of Leland, North Carolina, Marjorie Supplee of Tavares, Florida, and Jeanne Bishop of Easton, Maryland; her grandchildren, Kate Supplee of Leland, Ben Supplee of Leland, Todd Bishop of Oxford, Maryland and Jill Bishop of Annapolis, Maryland; her three great-grandchildren; and her 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She is remembered as a hilariously funny person and the life of every party. She was an avid golfer, gardener and beach-goer. In her leisure, she enjoyed entertaining friends and would never turn down a chance to play Bridge. She could even be found watching football on Sunday afternoons. Her family was everything to her as she was to them. They find solace knowing that Vel and Sup are together again.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound, 101 Airlie Road, Wilmington, NC 28403. Service will be followed by a celebration of her life at Plantation Village.
