WILMINGTON- Trailing by seven with 2:40 remaining in the game, the Hoggard offense drove 62 yards and used a Josh Jones two yard touchdown on fourth down to pull within one, but the ensuing point after attempt went wide right after a bad snap as the Vikings dropped a heartbreaker, 14-13, to Carolina Forest at Scott Braswell Stadium.
Tre Houser made a spectacular grab and got one foot in bounds along the near sideline for a 21 yard gain during the final possession before Jones took a naked bootleg in for the score. Despite a ton of missed opportunities, the Hoggard offense was able to put together a 78 yard drive midway through the third quarter and used a 20-yard touchdown strike from Jones to Chet Radack over the middle to get on the board after going down 14-0 to the Panthers.

Jones completed 13-of-22 passes, including his final five attempts, for 105 yards and two total touchdowns. He added 94 yards rushing. Radack had a team-high five receptions, while Patrick Morrison made two key catches late in the game to help key the second score. Tony Allen finished with 17 carries for 64 yards on the ground.
A point of emphasis all week for the Vikings defense was to limit big plays. However, Carolina Forest went up 7-0 with 8:22 to go in the first half when quarterback Michael Beale hit Ishmael Garcia for an 85 yard touchdown. Beale set up a four yard scoring play at the 5:45 mark of the third quarter to make it 14-0 with a 45 yard run to bring the ball deep into Hoggard territory. The Panthers quarterback also found Garcia on a 23-yard pass to set up first and goal from the four yard line.
In six possessions during the opening 24 minutes, Hoggard had four punts, one missed field goal and a turnover on downs. The Vikings compiled just 131 total yards in the first half. Reece Moulton had an interception for Hoggard. Cullum Crowley added one sack and Just Burger broke up a key pass play to force a Carolina Forest punt on the opening possession of the third quarter.
Hoggard fell to 1-3 overall, having dropped three games by a total seven points this season. The Vikings embark on a two-game road trip beginning on Friday, Sept. 16 with a trip to Clinton.
