5,000 gallons of wastewater spilled in Kure Beach

KURE BEACH – An estimated 5,000 gallons of wastewater spilled onto Fort Fisher Boulevard at H Avenue in Kure Beach on Labor Day.

According to a news release from the town, which is required by state law when a spill of 1,000 gallons or more of untreated water reaches surface waters, the incident occurred on Sept. 6 due to equipment failure.

The wastewater ended up in the Atlantic Ocean, according to the town. The state’s Division of Water Quality was notified Tuesday, Sept. 6. Residents seeking more information can call the Kure Beach Public Works Department at (910) 458-5816.
