BRUNSWICK COUNTY – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office today released a description of the man it says may be holding an area woman and her 1-year-old son against their will.
Detectives say Shayla Da’nia Bryant and her son, Alijah, were last seen by family members Saturday morning around 8:30 a.m. at the scene of the shooting in the 500 block of Cedar Grove Road.
The shooting was at the intersection of Cedar Grove and Stone Chimney roads between people in a car and in the street, according to the sheriff’s office. While there were no injuries, the police believe Bryant and the infant left the scene with a man described as a “person of interest” in the shooting, 28-year-old Dwight Powell Jr.
The latest description of Powell comes from 2015 arrest. At the time, he weighed 215 pounds and had long, black braids and/or dreads. Powell is 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a neck tattoo. Powell is considered armed and dangerous.

Police had earlier released a description of the vehicle Bryant and Powell were believed to be driving, however that vehicle was recovered in Supply, near the shooting location, on Wednesday.
Bryant is a black female who about is 5 feet 2 inches tall with tattoos on her chest.
Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of Bryant and her son is asked to contact Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detective Mitchell McCaffity at 910-363-6555 or to call 911.
