Local law enforcement is continuing to gather details after a Monkey Junction-area accident this weekend that left one man dead.
Sgt. Hugh Cannady with NC Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Saturday on southbound Carolina Beach Road near the Wilmington Moose Lodge.
Cannady said 18-year-old Dylan McCormick attempted to make a u-turn but failed to see motorcyclist Lance Smith. Smith, who Canady said was in his early 20s, was ejected from his motorcycle and later died as a result of his injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, Cannady said. McCormick has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and was cited for failing to yield during a left turn. He is scheduled to appear in court in New Hanover County on July 21.
