You know you love his way.
The British rock icon behind one of the bestselling albums of all time – Peter Frampton – comes alive on the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater stage on Monday, May 30 as part of 98.3 FM The Penguin and Huka Entertainment’s summer concert series. Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday.
Frampton’s entry into music began in his hometown of Bromley, UK in high school, where he and a fellow classmate also destined for stardom – David Bowie – would spend their lunch hour strumming Buddy Holly songs. Frampton’s teenage band, The Little Ravens, also often shared a bill with Bowie’s George and the Dragons.
After stints with several other bands, Frampton joined with Steve Marriott of Small Faces to form Humble Pie at the age of 18, and went on to record four studio albums before setting out in 1971 on a solo career.
It was a rocky journey for the singer and guitarist until 1976, when his live album, “Frampton Comes Alive!,” skyrocketed to the top of the charts and made Frampton a star. The album included three of his now classic tunes, “Baby, I Love Your Way,” “Show Me the Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do,” and showcased his penchant for the talk box. Today the electrifying album, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, remains one of the top-selling live recordings in history.
Recently inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame, Frampton isn’t content to just revel in his prior success. Instead, he has continued to stay on the road, with tours like “Frampton’s Guitar Circus” in 2014 and an acoustic tour this year in support of his February release of a stripped down collection of his hits. According to his website, Frampton is co-headlining another national tour with southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd this summer.
While an opening act for Frampton’s Wilmington show has not yet been announced, tickets will be available for $57.50 this Friday through the Concerts tab on Port City Daily’s home page.
This latest concert announcement follows two others–The Claypool Lennon Delirium and SOJA–from The Penguin and Huka Entertainment since Wilmington City Council agreed to free up some summertime dates at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater. Those dates were previously exclusive to Cape Fear Shakespeare but since that decision earlier this month, promoters can now take four during the time frame. A fourth performance presented by The Penguin and Huka has yet to be confirmed.
