
Vernon Lee ‘Bill’ Tart Jr., 88, of Wilmington, died peacefully on the evening of Thursday, March 24, 2016. A true southern gentleman, Vernon was loved by countless family and friends.
Whether in his work for the U.S. Department of Defense in Washington, or at the counter of A-to-Z Rental in Wilmington, Vernon’s kind, helpful, happy demeanor earned him the admiration and love of everyone around him. He was a true patriot who honored and loved his family, the St. Louis Cardinals, Frank Sinatra and an occasional martini.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Terry, and is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joyce Betters Tart. He was the loving father of his daughters, Kim (Dan Saeger), Jennifer (Paul Fish) and Katheryn (Art Levin); son, Kevin (Karen), and loving stepfather to Adam Kaufman (Claire) and Brinton Kaufman. He is also survived by his sisters, Gloria (Bob Crutchfield) and Jeanne Winding. He was the loving grandfather of Matthew, Olivia, Emily, Reed, Keegan, Wil and Luke; and great-grandfather of Lydia and Lucas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Vernon’s memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, at the Chapel of Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, 1535 S. 41st St., Wilmington.
