Police search for vehicle in hit-and-run with bicyclist

Wilmington police are searching for a vehicle believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run wreck Sunday night on Oleander Drive.

A bicyclist was struck in the 5600 block of Oleander Drive just after 11 p.m. Sunday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. The man and the suspect vehicle were headed westbound when the wreck occurred.

The man sustained serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Lindsay said.

Police are searching for a silver or grey Nissan Altima between model years 1998 and 2001, Lindsay said. The car is alleged to have a right passenger mirror missing and damage to the right front corner bumper as well as the right front tire.

Police say armed robbery could be drug-related

A 21-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint while in a vehicle on Cobblestone Drive.

The armed robbery was reported in the 400 block of Cobblestone Drive just before 3 a.m. Monday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cpl. Leslie Irving.

The victim was in his vehicle when he was flagged down by two black males wearing hooded sweatshirts, Irving said. The suspects reportedly pulled a gun on the victim, who stopped in a nearby parking lot. The suspects took the victim’s cash and ran from the scene. No injuries were reported.

Police suspect the robbery could be drug-related, Irving said. The investigation is ongoing.
