A state leader will be the guest speaker at Historic Wilmington Foundation’s upcoming luncheon.
N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources secretary Susan Kluttz will be on hand during the annual fundraising event, set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Coastline Conference and Events Center, 501 Nutt St.
Kluttz, a preservation leader in her hometown of Salisbury, has been a tireless advocate for the recently reinstated state historic rehabilitation tax credits, according to a release from the Historic Wilmington Foundation (HWF).
“These credits are one of the most effective tools residential and commercial building owners have to save historic buildings and offset the cost of rehabilitation,” the release states.
The luncheon will celebrate the accomplishments of HWF and its supporters on the cusp of the local non-profit’s 50 years of leadership. Among its achievements are the rescue of nearly 150 historic buildings, the education of over 15,000 schoolchildren through the Tarheels Go Walking partnership with New Hanover County schools, the formation of eight National Register Districts and the creation of the Legacy Architectural Salvage project.
