The large candidate pool for the Carolina Beach Town Council has narrowed by one.

Steve Wright, a local businessman who also currently serves on the town’s Marketing Advisory Committee and the Arts and Activities Committee, has dropped out of the race, citing family reasons.

“I ceased my campaign for Carolina Beach Town Council,” Wright wrote in an email. “I had a recent change in our family situation that necessitates I have flexibility and increased time for my family. Therefore, I will not be participating.”

Wright’s departure leaves eight candidates, including two incumbents,  vying for two seats on the five-person council.

Council members Sarah Friede and Steve Shuttleworth are both running for re-election. The other candidates challenging for their spots are Patrick O. Boykin, Tom Bridges, Tom Elicson, Tammy J. Hanson, Lonnie Lashley and T.D. Scaringi.

Municipal elections are Nov. 3.
