Get ready for some good eats and lots of live entertainment.
The 19th annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-Off will be serving up bowlfuls of homemade creations this weekend down in Carolina Beach.
The family friendly event gets underway at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Carolina Beach Lake. Admission is $6 for adults (children 12 years of age and younger are admitted free).
Chefs from across southeastern North Carolina will serve up samples of a selection of seafood chowders while vying for the title of tastiest. The Mark Roberts Band performs throughout the daylong festival.
This year’s cook-off includes three returning eateries and four new entries–Gibby’s Dock and Dine, Havana’s Fresh Island Restaurant, Saint’s Cove Beach Bar & Grill, SeaWitch Café & Tiki Bar, Shelby Jeans on the Boardwalk, The Shack at Dockside and Two Kousins Sports Bar.
Taste-tests and voting will be held until 3:30 p.m., with this year’s chowder champion announced at 5:30 p.m. Chowder is served on a first-come, first-served basis.
For the young ones, there is a Kidz Zone that includes face painting, an inflatable slide, laser tag and lots of activities. With an additional fee, families can take a ride around the lake in a paddle boat.
