Wilmington man sentenced to federal prison for distributing crack

A Wilmington man has been sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison for drug and firearm charges.

Ernest Dailey, 48, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 28 grams of cocaine and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime on Dec. 1, 2014, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office Spokesman Don Connelly. U.S. District Judge James C. Fox sentenced Dailey to 262 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release on Wednesday.

Wilmington police executed a search warrant at Dailey’s home on March 16, 2014, when they found more than 44 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 6 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, $8,800 in cash, drug paraphernalia and a 9mm semi-automatic firearm, Connelly said.

“Dailey admitted that he had been selling drugs and admitted taking the firearm in a form of payment for drugs,” Connelly said.

Dailey, who had 12 prior drug convictions, was designated as a career offender, Connelly said.
