WPD: Man arrested after police reportedly find 40 bags of marijuana in his underwear

A Wilmington man was arrested on drug charges after a vehicle stop in the Creekwood community on Saturday.

Patrol officers stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Hurst Street at 9:07 p.m., Lindsay said. Police searched the driver—20-year-old Wakeel Rasheed Steward—and reportedly found 40 bags of marijuana in his underwear.

Steward, of Wilmington, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute marijuana; possession of marijuana paraphernalia; resisting a public officer; and driving while license revoked. He was also served with outstanding warrants for possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; conspiracy to sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance; and selling heroin and delivering heroin, Lindsay said.

Steward was also charged with a probation violation. His most recent conviction was for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury on April 7, 2014, in New Hanover County. The conviction stemmed from a shooting that injured teen in the Creekwood Community on Oct. 17, 2013. He was ordered to serve 30 months on probation.

Steward was booked at the New Hanover County jail under a $268,100 secured bond.
