With just a few weeks remaining before it is scheduled to wrap, the locally filmed TV series “Sleepy Hollow” is entering the home stretch for production of its sophomore season.

The supernatural series is finishing up the second day of a two-day shoot at the Brooklyn Arts Center in downtown Wilmington. The shoot started Wednesday and is scheduled to continue through 4 a.m. tomorrow, according to a permit filed with the city.

The former St. Andrews Church, built in 1888 and recently renovated as an event space, has served as a frequent location for the show, which is based on the 1820 short story by Washington Irving, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

According to the permit, the scenes being shot there today involve characters studying an artifact’s powers. The shoot also involves several exterior scenes, including a car crash and characters exchanging prop gunfire.

Four cast members are involved in the shoot, as well as five extras and as many as 100 crew members.

The shoot requires several street closures, including on Campbell Street between Third and Fifth streets and on Fourth Street between Red Cross and Hanover streets. The permit states Fourth Street will only be closed when needed during filming of the exterior scenes. Intermittent traffic control is also possible.

In addition to prop gunfire, special effects include windows shattering, smoke and fog effects, explosion effects and a lightning strobe-light effect. Similar effects have been used in recent shoots at the foot of Market Street and other “war” scenes filmed throughout downtown.

“Sleepy Hollow” is aiming to wrap production in mid-January. The series airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
