Wilmington police arrested a man on multiple drug charges following a vehicle stop in downtown Wilmington on Thursday.

Officers near the intersection of Market and Second streets noticed a vehicle with an expired registration just before 8 p.m. Thursday, according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, “the driver did not stop immediately and was seen throwing things out of the vehicle,” Lindsay said.

One officer stopped his patrol vehicle and found in drugs in the road, while another officer eventually stopped the suspect vehicle, Lindsay said. Officers seized cocaine, marijuana and scales.

Jermaine John Morris, 31, was arrested and charged with maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance; possession of cocaine; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; resist, delay or obstruct public officers; altering or destroying evidence; possession of drug paraphernalia and expired registration.

He was taken to the New Hanover County jail and placed under a $30,000 secured bond.

Two shots fired reports Wednesday

Wilmington police responded to two reports of shots fired early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alter at 208 S. 11th St. at 3:56 a.m., according to Lindsay. Officers found a party was letting out in the area, she said. One unspent 9-mm round was found in the road.

Minutes later, police responded to a second ShotSpotter alert at 622 Bunting Drive at 4:01 a.m., Lindsay said. Three shots were fired.

Officers recovered three shell casings from the scene, Lindsay said. No injuries or property damage were reported in the shootings.
