Weekend crime report: Pizza driver assaulted at gunpoint, man shot on 14th Street, armed robbery reported at gas station

The following incidents were reported to the Wilmington Police Department over the weekend:

  • Officers on scene at 11th and Hall streets for a ShotSpotter alert were approached by a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver who was reportedly assaulted at gunpoint just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. The victim stated a man pointed a rifle at him in the 1500 block of Corbett Street. No shots were fired. Police arrested 29-year-old Jason Ray Oxendine and charged him with assault by pointing a gun, possession of a firearm by a felon, manufacturing a schedule VI controlled substance and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance. He was taken to the New Hanover County jail and placed under a $26,000 secured bond.
  • A man was shot in the leg Friday night on South 14th Street. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 500 block of South 14th Street at 9:47 p.m. Police found a shell casing and a blood trail in the area. The man–who was shot in the lower leg–reportedly arrived at the hospital minutes after the report. Police also found a vehicle had been hit by gunfire, Lindsay said.
  • An armed robbery was reported just after 3 p.m. Saturday at a Kangaroo gas station on Eastwood Road. The victim, who is an employee of the gas station, stated he was about to leave the store to make a deposit when a man with a gun approached his vehicle. The victim threw the money bag out of his vehicle, Lindsay said. The suspect picked up the bag and got into the passenger side of a black vehicle and left the scene.
