
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested one of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s (TBI) 10 most wanted fugitives in Wilmington.
Stephen Beck, 43, was arrested at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Dapple Court in the New Centre Commons apartment complex, according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office records.
Beck was wanted for failing to appear in court on several sex offense charges in July 2011.
In August 2010, Beck was indicted in Wilson County, Tennessee, on nine counts of rape of a child, 16 counts of rape and 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to information from the TBI’s most wanted fugitives list.
Beck was indicted in 2010 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, on three counts of rape of a child. Beck was released from the county’s jail on a $1 million bond, according to a Rutherford County clerk of court.
On July 25, 2011, Beck was added to the TBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list when he failed to report to court in Wilson County, Tennessee, to enter a plea or set a trial date. He was last seen in Wilson County in July 2011.
Beck has been charged in New Hanover County with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also served with two out-of-state fugitive warrants.
Beck made his first appearance today in New Hanover County District Court where he requested a court-appointed attorney, according to Samantha Dooies, assistant to District Attorney Ben David.
District Judge Rebecca Blackmore ordered that he remain at the New Hanover County jail under an $18 million secured bond. Beck is scheduled to make his next appearance in New Hanover County District Court on June 5.
