Get ready to get your laugh on.

The Cape Fear Comedy Festival gets underway tomorrow (Wednesday) and runs through Saturday at various downtown venues.

This year’s event, which includes a host of local, regional and national acts, features headliner Judy Gold. The Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian performs at 8 p.m. Wednesday at City Stage at Level 5.

The Cape Fear Comedy Festival began in 2010 through the efforts of Wilmington comedians and comedy show producers Matt Ward and Timmy Sherrill, who owned and operated Nutt Street Comedy Room.

Even with the closing of Nutt Street in 2013, the festival lives on this year, with performances set at City Stage, as well as Reel Cafe, manna and several other locations. Click here for a full schedule.

The aim of the annual event is to provide a gathering place for comics to develop their careers and enjoy themselves, while taking part in a comedian-friendly festival.

Tickets to see Gold are $18 in advance, and $20-$30 the day of the show. Festival passes are available for $20. More information on tickets can be found here.
