WPD crime report: Two armed robberies reported, felon arrested for possessing a firearm

Wilmington police are investigating two armed robberies reported over the weekend.

An armed robbery was reported at 1:04 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Clay Street, according to police spokeswoman Linda Rawley.

A man and woman reportedly picked up two men on Clay Street to give them a ride, Rawley said. One of the men who entered the victim’s vehicle asked to use the woman’s phone, got out of the car and walked away. The second suspect pulled a handgun on the female victim and demanded money, Rawley said. The male victim reportedly gave the suspect money. The suspect fled on foot toward Princess Place Drive.

One suspect is described as a 29-year-old black male. He has medium-length dreadlocks and carried a gun. The second suspect is described as a thin black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks.

The investigation is ongoing.

The man ran to his van parked near an Arby’s in the area. The employee followed but the suspect pulled a knife on him. The man also told the employee he had a gun.

Officers were able to catch Hester and towed his vehicle away. Upon inspection, officers located a .22 magnum revolver in the glove box of the vehicle.

Hester was previously convicted of two felonies, including possession of a schedule I controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections. His most recent conviction was on Nov. 8, 2007, on charge of possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
