Wilmington police are investigating the death of a South Carolina man who was struck and killed while crossing Eastwood Road Wednesday night.
Officers responded to the 1900 block of Eastwood Road where a 70-year-old South Carolina man was found in the roadway just before 8:30 p.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.
“Witnesses told police the man was wearing dark colored clothing and was struck by a Lexus SUV while trying to cross the road. The vehicle was headed west toward Military Cutoff Road,” Rawley said.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim until his next of kin are notified. No charges have been filed at this time, Rawley said.
The death is the second pedestrian fatality in 24 hours, Rawley said. A Connecticut man died Tuesday night after he was struck by a minivan on Market Street.
