Sewer work along South Kerr Avenue will close the road entirely to traffic Thursday between Wrightsville and Cedar avenues.
Crews with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, performing work in the area since the start of the week, discovered a collapsed storm drain early Wednesday evening. Repair will encroach on Kerr’s southbound lane, requiring a full road closure, according to a notice from the CFPUA.
Work in the area has reduced that stretch of Kerr to one lane since Sunday, but the road between Wrightsville and Cedar will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to accommodate the repair.
Traffic will be detoured around the area. Motorists are asked to slow down and put their phones down when driving near the construction zone.
