(UPDATE: The following boil water advisory was lifted Saturday, Aug. 3.)
A boil water advisory will be issued at 9 a.m. Thursday for residents and businesses in the 1800 through 2000 blocks of Market Street in Wilmington.
Crews with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will be installing a new water main in the area, affecting water service to customers in those blocks. Traffic in the area could also be affected.
“This boil water advisory is being issued as a precaution because periods of low or now pressure increase the potential for the introduction of bacteria into the water system,” the CFPUA said in a notice released today. Customers in the area should boil their water for one minute prior to consumption or utilize another water source such as bottled water.
Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing and preparation of baby formula. Customers do not need to boil water prior to showering or bathing.
The advisory will be in effect until water quality testing has been completed and service is returned to normal, typically lifted within 24 hours. Notice that the advisory has been lifted will be posted on the authority’s website, and customers can also call the authority’s information line at 332-6500 for details about a specific advisory.
