Just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit arrived at a home on Van Galloway Trail in Winnabow to arrest 20-year-old Savannah Rose Kramp, who was wanted on drug charges.

Kramp, who is pregnant, was found in the home with three other children.

Kramp was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance and selling and delivering a schedule II controlled substance. She was one of more than 50 people arrested Wednesday during “Operation Spring Sweep,” a countywide drug roundup targeting 70 people wanted on drug charges.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit Lt. Israel West, investigations for the final day of this operation began in January and ended in March.

“Stop engaging in those [illegal] activities. If you continue to engage in it, then we are going to arrest you,” Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram said.

West said the sheriff’s office acquires many leads through calls from county citizens who inform them of drug activities within their communities. Agents also use confidential informants in an area to address community drug problems.

“What we do is we cultivate informants and the informants that we cultivate go out on their own…we’ll meet with our informant, search him, wire him up, give him some money, send him to a house and later make a controlled buy,” West said.

“Each buy inherently has its own set of charges that go with it. We’ll video it and get audio of it–of each transaction–and we’ll run those informants that way over the whole county, hitting the hot spots where we have complaints.”

Ingram said deputies and agents round up those who were indicted, get them into the system, and if they want to cooperate with the sheriff’s office, then they are given the opportunity. By conducting one sweeping operation, it allows agents to arrest, book and talk to multiple suspects at once.

“A lot of times we will utilize a number of undercover resources…it’s all about using our resources as wisely as we can.” Ingram said.

“An operation like this sends a very clear message from the citizens of our county. It is only possible with their help and assistance. The vast majority of the individuals who were apprehended this morning were a direct result of citizens calling into our office, submitting tips on our website, or alerting us in other ways of suspicious activity in their communities.

“We value the confidence placed in us by our citizens and ask that they stay vigilant in keeping us informed. No issue is too small – if it concerns them, it concerns the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office,” Ingram said.
